SALT LAKE CITY, UT [February 25, 2025] Total Joint Orthopedics, Inc. (TJO) is pleased to announce newly released 10-year outcomes on the Klassic® Knee that represent a significant milestone, further validating the durability of the system and the effectiveness of its modern universal femoral design. The paper titled, “Positive Clinical Outcomes at 10 Years with the Universal Femoral Component in Total Knee Arthroplasty”, was published in the Journal of Orthopaedics in December 2024.
The study tested and supported the following two hypotheses: that patient outcomes after ten years were maintained from the previous six-year assessment, and that the Klassic® Femur’s patented nine-degree double Q-angle design maintained patella tracking over the duration of the study.
In addition to the positive clinical outcomes demonstrated in the study, the universal femoral component “presents various advantages that could appeal to surgeons including reduced turnover and setup times, instrument clutter, and sterilization costs.”1
“While total knee replacement designs have gravitated toward using asymmetric components, there has been little data to suggest their superiority over symmetrical designs,” said paper author Alexander Nielsen, MD, of the Hofmann Arthritis Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. “With rising healthcare costs, there is a greater need to focus on efficiency and value. The modern universal design is one of few solutions that takes clear aim at these goals. By eliminating the need for left and right knee implants, the system significantly reduces the cost of surgery through lower sterilization and storage costs, and shorter set-up and turn-over times.”
“The Klassic® Knee System offers the only modern universal femur on the market. Its symmetric design is what allows us to streamline our instrumentation, which we build from the ground up with efficiency in mind. Who else offers the ability to perform a primary total knee with a single instrument tray and no preoperative imaging or patient-specific instrumentation” said Erin Hofmann, TJO’s President and CEO. “We are excited to confirm what we’ve known for years: a universal femur can both provide excellent clinical outcomes for patients and provide unparalleled efficiency, saving time and reducing costs.”
